The Refuge for DMST in partnership with Protect The P.A.T.H.

Our community has only recently begun to recognize that we have a severe societal problem in regards to the commercial sexual exploitation of children, also known as domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). The needs of trafficked children are extensive and complex. Thus, a coordinated, multidisciplinary community response is critical when serving child survivors of sex trafficking and why The Refuge and Protect The Path have partnered together to more effectively respond to this issue.

Protect The P.A.T.H. (People Against Trafficking Humans) seeks to bring awareness, prevention, rescue assistance and restoration to this global epidemic evil that reaches into neighborhoods and communities all around the world, especially here in America. Seeking to partner with like-minded organizations providing rescue and restoration, Protect The P.A.T.H. has joined forces with The Refuge in order to work together to bring prevention efforts to our community. However, we already have so many exploited children identified and in need of comprehensive care. That’s why The Refuge is developing The Refuge Ranch, a long-term, residential, therapeutic ranch for girls, ages 11-17, who have been rescued out of sex trafficking. Located on 50 acres in a beautiful and restorative setting outside of Austin, TX, The Refuge Ranch will provide trauma-informed, holistic care for the girls on-site, including: a University of Texas Charter School program, medical care and various therapeutic programs uniquely designed for the development of a child survivor. Slated to open in the Winter of 2016, The Refuge Ranch will be one of the only live-in rehabilitation facilities for child survivors of sex trafficking in the United States.
